The proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year plans to increase health sector expenditure to 1.01 per cent of the GDP. The total allocation has been set at Tk69,401 crore, marking a significant increase from the 0.58 per cent allocated in the current fiscal year.

An analysis of the draft budget speech and Finance Bill 2026 obtained by TIMES, together with the official budget summary, suggests that in addition to the Ministry of Health, the budget proposal incorporates health-related expenditures from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Islamic Foundation, Police Hospital, and the health activities of the Local Government Division.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to place the Tk9.38 lakh crore national budget for FY2026-27 on Thursday.

An allocation of Tk49,386 crore has been designated for the Health Services Division, which is higher than the previous year’s revised budget of Tk21,933 crore and the original budget of Tk14,763 crore.

Within this allocation, Tk26,805 crore has been earmarked for the development sector.

The combined Annual Development Programme (ADP) allocation for the two divisions stands at Tk35,027 crore.
