Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz views Bangladesh’s first ever bilateral ODI series victory over Australia as one of the biggest successes in the country’s cricket history. According to him, the achievement was made even more special not just by beating a strong opponent, but also by the positive comments from the Australian players about Bangladesh’s cricket, cricketers and home wickets.
Speaking at the press conference after the final ODI, Miraz said: “This is very special because we have never won a series against Australia before. We may have won a single match once, but that was back in 2005. I was quite young then, but I watched that match and I still remember it. We have won a series against Australia, and I think that is a huge achievement for Bangladesh. But the biggest achievement, I feel, is that Australian players have been praising our cricket, our conditions, our wickets and our players. So I think this is a massive achievement for us.”
Miraz also views the praise from the Australian cricketers regarding Bangladesh’s progress as a success in itself. “What pleased me most was the way the Australian cricketers praised our cricket, our cricketers and our home wickets. Receiving such recognition from the opposition is proof that we are moving forward,” he said.
Despite leading Bangladesh to a series win over Australia, Miraz has faced considerable criticism for his own batting. However, the allrounder said he is confident of improving with the bat. “I am working on certain areas and trying to improve my batting. Perhaps I am not batting the way I used to in the past, but I am working on it. Based on how I played in the last match, I have confidence. I hope that if I can hold on to this confidence, my batting will also improve,” he said.
