Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 15 has arrested the prime suspect in the double murder case of Asif and Hridoy in Cox’s Bazar.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Assistant Director (Law and Media) AM Faruk of RAB-15 confirmed the arrest to Times of Bangladesh on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Ziaur Rahman Zia, 35, was apprehended around 02:50am from Ukhiar Ghona (Ganiya Kata) area of Ramu upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.
He is a resident of Islampur area in Ward number 7 of Cox’s Bazar municipality, the son of the late Najir Ahmed.
According to the case details, two youths named Asif and Hridoy were brutally murdered around 11pm on 2 June in Islampur area of Pahartali under Ward number 7 of Cox’s Bazar municipality.
Following the incident, the father of the deceased Asif, Md Ismail, filed a murder case (case number 11) at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station on 05 June.
During initial interrogation, Zia admitted that he had been hiding in the hilly terrains of Ramu Upazila to evade capture.
Faruk described Zia as a “professional criminal”.
The suspect reportedly faces a total of eight cases at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, including two previous murder charges and one narcotics case.
Zia has been handed over to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station for further legal proceedings.
