Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team on their historic Test victory over Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, praising the players for securing the country’s first ever home Test win against the visitors.
Inspired by a devastating bowling display from Nahid Rana, Bangladesh dismissed Pakistan for just 163 while defending a target of 268, sealing a commanding 104-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Tuesday’s victory in Mirpur, however, carried its own distinct significance. It was the first time Bangladesh had beaten Pakistan in a Test match on home soil, making it one of the most celebrated results in the country’s cricketing history.
It is also Bangladesh’s third consecutive Test win against Pakistan, a run of dominance over their opponents that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.
