President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has formally taken up residence at Bangabhaban, accompanied by his wife Rahat Ara Begum and other family members.
Fakhrul was sworn in as the 23rd President in the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Friday. He spent the following two days at his Hare Road residence, No. 35 in the capital.
Around 10:30am on Sunday, the president arrived at Bangabhaban. A ceremonial mounted contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) greeted him at Gate‑2 and escorted his motorcade to the Guard of Honour grounds.
There, a PGR unit presented the Guard of Honour, which the president inspected.
At the Octagon reception area, the President was welcomed with floral tributes by his Military Secretary Major General ASM Bahauuddin, Public Division Secretary AJM Salahuddin Nagri, Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam, and Assistant Military Secretary Brigadier General Mohammad Raisul Islam.
Following the formalities, the president proceeded to his office, exchanged greetings with senior officials, and began official duties in the chamber of the state’s highest constitutional office.
After the 13th parliamentary election, in which BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s government was formed with a two‑thirds majority, Fakhrul had been residing at 35 Hare Road as Minister for Local Government.
