The police are investigating threats sent to several foreign embassies in Dhaka. The embassies received these threats via email a few days ago and subsequently informed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Following this, the DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit initiated an investigation.
On Thursday afternoon, CTTC officials held a meeting with officials of two embassies at an office in Baridhara. The CTTC officials advised embassy staff not to be worried and commenced their investigation, DMP sources say.
When asked about the matter on Saturday night, CTTC Joint Police Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin told TIMES of Bangladesh, “There is nothing to be concerned about regarding the messages sent via email to multiple embassies and individuals.
“The investigation is ongoing, and although no one has been identified yet, we suspect these are email scams.”
A police source said a certain quarter may have sent those threats to spread panic.
