A medical board at Evercare Hospital has decided to perform brain surgery on BNP leader and political adviser to the Prime Minister Mirza Abbas after reviewing his critical condition.

Dr Rafiqul Islam, the health secretary of BNP, confirmed the decision, stating that the expert medical board conducted a thorough assessment of Abbas’ health before opting for surgery.

He also informed that Abbas was taken to the operation theatre at 3:10pm on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Abbas underwent a CT scan, which revealed that his condition had deteriorated. Following the scan results, a virtual medical board was convened immediately to evaluate the situation and make the final decision for surgery. The family members were consulted, and their consent was obtained before proceeding.

Dr Rafiqul Islam further revealed that the medical board is composed of some of the country’s most renowned neuro-specialists, including Professors Ali Ujjamal Jowardar, Kazi Dheen Mohammad, Shahabuddin Talukdar, Raziul Haque, Syed Saeed Ahmed, Kader Sheikh, Shafiqul Islam, along with the doctors at Evercare Hospital.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Evercare Hospital after Jumma prayers to inquire about Abbas’ condition. The medical board briefed him in detail about the situation.

Dr Rafiqul Islam also called upon the nation to pray for Mirza Abbas’ speedy recovery.

Mirza Abbas, a senior member of the BNP Standing Committee and political adviser to the Prime Minister, was admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday night after losing consciousness during Iftar.

He has since been receiving treatment for his critical condition.
