National University (NU) has initiated plans to reintegrate a modernised Rover Scouting course into its Bachelor (Pass) and Bachelor (Honours) curricula.
The announcement was made by NU Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah on Saturday while presiding over the 156th regional executive committee meeting of Bangladesh Scouts Rover Region in Kakrail, Dhaka.
The proposed one-credit course will combine moral education with spiritual and socio-cultural values to build ethical and humane standards among students. A concept paper is currently being prepared to finalise the course structure and credit allocation, read a press release.
As part of the wider initiative, Rover Scouts will volunteer for the “Prime Minister’s Gold Cup,” prepare for a prime ministerial scouting event in December, and integrate “Third Language” learning through the university’s Language Club.
Additionally, NU plans to introduce an annual “Happy Learning Day,” involve scouts in planting and nurturing 20 million trees, and foster private-sector and philanthropic partnerships to support developmental initiatives.
The meeting was attended by key scouts and education officials, including Professor Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel (DSHE director general and scout commissioner), NU Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, and Intermediate and Secondary Education Board chairmen of Chattogram, Sylhet, and Mymensingh.
