Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on the public to remain vigilant against those threatening that the government “cannot be given time”, saying such voices serve their own interests, not the people’s.
“The people have given BNP a mandate to run the country for five years. Those who say BNP cannot be given time are not speaking for the people’s interests — they are speaking for their own,” the prime minister said at a rally at Moulvibazar Government High School ground on Wednesday afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said the coming time is for building the country and changing the nation’s fate. “Building the country based on the people’s verdict will be our future politics,” he declared.
Earlier, the Tarique distributed Family Cards among marginalised women and inaugurated the third phase of Family Card distribution in 19 wards of Moulvibazar and across 21 other districts online. He also planted saplings at both Moulvibazar and Sreemangal.
At the event, he handed over cheques for one-time financial assistance to destitute, disabled, and marginalised people, including tea workers.
The prime minister urged the public to stay vigilant against those trying to disrupt the government’s work. “BNP won’t need to do anything. If the public remains vigilant, BNP’s work will be done. The owner of this country is the people,” he said.
Responding to critics asking where funds for Family Cards would come from, the prime minister said, “The whole world has seen how the country’s money was laundered. From now on, with the people, we will stop that. The money and resources of this country will be used for the good of the people.”
Tarique Rahman called on all to work together. “If we have to take this country forward, we must all work hand in hand. Let us pledge that our future politics will revolve around this country and its people. Building the country will be our future politics,” he said.
He noted that electoral pledges — Family Cards, Farmer Cards, loan waivers, honorariums for religious leaders, school dresses, and sports competitions — are benefiting all people regardless of party affiliation.
Presided over by Social Welfare Minister AZM. Zahid Hossain, the event was addressed by Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury and other leaders.
