Pakistan’s spinners pushed West Indies onto the back foot on the third day of the second Test in Port of Spain, reducing the hosts to 103 for 6 and leaving them with a lead of only 60 runs.
West Indies began their second innings trailing by 43 runs and looked capable of building a competitive advantage. Instead, they lost wickets at regular intervals after reaching 40, allowing Pakistan to seize control of the match.
Sajid Khan led the attack with four wickets, while Ali Usman claimed two as the tourists tightened their grip. Sajid has now taken four wickets in each innings of the match.
Earlier, Pakistan failed to make the most of their overnight position despite resuming on 266 for 2. They lost four wickets for just 31 runs on Tuesday morning, with Babar Azam falling short of a century after a run-out ended his innings on 88.
Abdullah Shafique held the innings together with an unbeaten 160 from 323 balls, striking 15 fours and three sixes. He shared a valuable 59-run partnership with Sajid Khan, whose 30 runs helped Pakistan move into a first-innings lead.
West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican starred with the ball, taking 6 wickets, while Shamar Joseph claimed two and Jayden Seales one.
The home side’s second innings quickly lost momentum against Pakistan’s spin attack. Kavem Hodge scored 34, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Roston Chase each made 17 before departing.
Justin Greaves, who top-scored with 73 in the first innings, remains unbeaten and will resume on the fourth day alongside Brandon King as West Indies attempt to extend their slender lead.
West Indies won the opening Test by 90 runs, leaving Pakistan with a chance to level the two-match series if they can finish the job in Port of Spain.
