Babar Azam returned to batting training ahead of Pakistan’s second Test against Bangladesh national cricket team in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium after recovering from a left knee injury that ruled him out of the Mirpur Test.
Pakistan’s former captain trained fully with the squad and spent an extended period in the nets under batting coach Asad Shafiq. Pakistan media outlet Pakistan Observer reported that team physios and trainers closely monitored his movement during the session.
Babar showed no visible discomfort during practice. He also completed running drills between the wickets without trouble, which strengthened Pakistan’s hopes of having him available in Sylhet.
Pakistan will face Bangladesh in the second Test from 16 to 20 May at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Team officials reportedly viewed Babar’s injury as minor and opted to rest him in Mirpur as a precaution.
The same report added that Babar never requested to sit out the first Test. Pakistan’s management took the decision independently after assessing his fitness.
The 31-year-old enters the Bangladesh series in strong form. He finished as the leading run-scorer in the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League with 588 runs.
Pakistan’s batting struggled for fluency in phases of the Mirpur Test without Babar in the middle order. His return would strengthen their control against Bangladesh’s spin attack on a Sylhet surface that often slows down as matches progress.
