Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Sheik Moinuddin has said a direct train service between Pabna and Dhaka is expected to begin in March 2026.
He revealed it while talking to journalists at the Pakshi Divisional Railway Office in Pabna on Tuesday.
He said the railway department is working to overcome a current shortage of coaches and is preparing to start e service within the stated timeframe.
During his visit, Sheikh MoeenUddin also toured the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project and the North Bengal Paper Mill School, which carries memories from the Chief Adviser’s student life.
He said a review was underway regarding the unused railway station built for transporting materials to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, after which a decision would be taken.
He added that the government plans to develop a nationwide, modern and integrated transport network combining waterways, railways and roads.
The Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant said district-level connecting highways were being upgraded to four lanes and major roads across the country were being widened.
As an old and important district, Pabna’s main Abdul Hamid Road was being given priority for expansion, he said.
He said the Aricha Khashchar ferry connection project, the Pakshi–Badherhat road widening, and the Kashinathpur–Ullapara road widening projects were under active government consideration.
He also assured that an overpass would be constructed at the Ishwardi railway gate to reduce traffic congestion.
Earlier, BNP Chairperson’s Special Assistant and BNP candidate for Pabna Sadar, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and BNP District Convener and BNP nominated candidate for Pabna-4, Habibur Rahman Habib, placed long-standing local demands for improving communication to Sheik Moinuddin on behalf of the people of Pabna.
