Manchester City player Omar Marmoush will miss the upcoming Manchester derby on Sunday. He injured his knee while playing for Egypt.
The injury happened during a World Cup qualifier match against Burkina Faso on Tuesday. Marmoush left the game in the fourth minute after a tackle. He tried to keep playing but had to leave the field.
Manchester City confirmed the news on Wednesday. A scan in Egypt showed Marmoush has a knee ligament injury. He will return to Manchester for more tests and to start his recovery. The Egyptian Football Association said he has a bruised knee ligament.
Manchester City will face Manchester United on Sunday. Both teams want a win after poor starts to the Premier League season.
City lost two of their first three league games. Marmoush, who is 26, joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million in January. He has scored eight goals in 28 games for the club.
