Chhatra Dal central leader Hafizur Rahman Sohan was detained by authorities at Jahangirnagar University on Thursday (September 11) for being present illegally at a residential hall during the ongoing Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election.
The incident occurred around 11:00 am when Sohan, a former student of the university’s English Department (2006-07 batch), was found in a hall room without proper authorization.
When questioned about his presence in the hall, Sohan explained, “I arrived at the campus last night. I was feeling unwell, so I lay down in the hall.” However, when asked if he had sought permission to stay at the hall, he admitted, “No, I did not request permission.”
Following his detention, Sohan was handed over to the university’s proctorial body. Professor Shafiqul Islam, provost of the hall, stated, “The presence of former students in the residential halls during the election violates the code of conduct, so we are handing him over to the proctorial team.”
Proctor Professor A K M Rashidul Alam confirmed that Sohan was brought in by security personnel and that disciplinary action would be taken in accordance with university regulations.
