The National Sports Council will look into why Bangladesh missed this year’s T20 World Cup. State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque shared the update.
“We recently saw that the World Cup took place, but due to a lack of sports diplomacy we could not take part,” Aminul said. “Why this happened must be investigated.”
Bangladesh stayed out of the global event after a series of events. The BCB refused to travel to India for the tournament after Mustafizur Rahman was left out of the IPL. The call was taken under then sports adviser Asif Nazrul.
The board asked the ICC to change the venue. The ICC did not agree due to logistics. Officials from the ICC held meetings with the BCB both online and in person. They asked Bangladesh to take part in India. Bangladesh did not change its stance. In the end, Scotland got the place.
“I hope to form a committee on this,” Aminul said. “I want a full report on why we did not go, where the problem was, and why there was a lack of sports diplomacy.”
The Cricketers’ Association of Bangladesh also spoke against the decision. A group led by Naimur Rahman Mithun met Aminul and shared their views. He said steps will be taken after a full review.
Aminul added that the probe into BCB election issues will continue. He said decisions will be taken after talks with the ICC.
