NRBC Bank has organised a workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS-9) at its Human Resource and Training Development Centre on Tuesday.
NRBC Bank said in a press statement that Managing Director and CEO Md Touhidul Alam Khan attended the session as the chief guest.
It said Raditha Alahakoon, partner at KPMG Sri Lanka, delivered a presentation on steps toward implementing IFRS 9 – Financial Instruments, with a focus on expected credit loss-based loan classification and provisioning. The bank said the initiative represents the first of its kind in the country’s banking industry under Bangladesh Bank guidelines.
“This implementation marks a structural shift in how banks in Bangladesh will measure and manage credit risk, moving from prudential rule-based frameworks toward globally aligned forward-looking standards,” said NRBC Bank Managing Director and CEO Md Touhidul Alam Khan. “This will be the first full adoption of expected credit loss models as guided by the central bank.”
The bank said KPMG Bangladesh Associate Director Nazib Ullah attended the event as special guest, while all relevant divisional heads of NRBC Bank took part in the workshop.
