The Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) and the Editors’ Council have announced a joint Media Conference 2026, in response to a concerning rise in mob violence and systematic attacks on democratic values.
The event is scheduled to take place on 17 January, at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital’s Khamarbari area.
The conference, which will run from 10am to 1:30pm, seeks to create a united front for independent, responsible, and courageous journalism. The organisers noted that the recent sequence of attacks on freedom of expression and democratic principles is unprecedented in nature.
According to the press release issued by NOAB President AK Azad and Editors’ Council President Nurul Kabir, the assembly aims to achieve several critical objectives – protecting the democratic environment for the media, guaranteeing the safety of journalists, and upholding the professional dignity and rights of all media workers.
Attendance and registration for the event will begin at 9:30am on the day of the conference. The leadership of both organisations has called for active participation from the media fraternity to ensure the success of this initiative and to stand together in favour of free press.
