Coaching centres must be eliminated completely and exam malpractice will not be tolerated, Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said.
He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a views-exchange meeting with centre secretaries of the Cumilla region at Cumilla Shilpakala Academy. Officials from Cumilla Education Board, centre secretaries and stakeholders attended the meeting.
“Teachers must identify students’ academic weaknesses so that dependence on coaching centres can be removed,” he said.
The minister added, “There are licensing systems for everything at home and abroad, but coaching centres are being opened like mushrooms. Do you think these will not come under the law? Everything will be brought under regulation gradually.”
Milon said, “The prime minister has entrusted me with the responsibility of education. We have done many things, but the dream is one — to build Tarique Rahman’s Bangladesh of tomorrow. The Ministry of Education is not like other ministries. Those working here will receive Sadaqah Jariyah.”
He added, “Teachers assisted in exam cheating between 1972 and 2001. From 2001 to 2006, I fought against copying. Later, when we left, the same situation returned. It means you will work the way the government wants. We have come back now, and we do not want any more copying.”
