Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said that there will be no mercy shown to looters responsible for stealing people’s money.
He made the remark at an election rally organised at the Government Alia Madrasa ground in Sylhet city on Saturday.
“We will not let those who have looted people’s money live in peace. Wherever in the world they may be, if they willingly return the people’s due right, they will certainly be appreciated. And if they do not return it, then the state will put its hand inside their mouth and bring it out from their stomach,” he said.
“No one will be given clemency,” he added.
Regarding the recent hacking of his X account (formerly Twitter), Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman commented that the thief has been caught, yet they are not stopping. He said, “The thief has been caught, yet they are not stopping. So, does the thief’s mother still have a big throat?”
Referring to a political party, the Jamaat Ameer said, “This party cannot respect mothers and sisters; for protesting this, missiles are being launched against me. They are tarnishing my character. But they do not know that in the modern world, if you fire a missile, you also get hit by an ‘anti-missile’.”
However, he called for forgiving those engaged in tarnishing his character, stating that those who have looted people’s money will not be allowed to live in peace.
Shafiqur Rahman assured that if he wins the national election and assumes responsibility, he will not commit injustice in even one inch of the country’s 54,000 square miles. He commented that every inch of land will claim its due.
Highlighting Sylhet’s long-standing deprivation, the Jamaat ameer said that the just demands and dues that the people of Sylhet have will be handed over to the people of Sylhet with honour.
At the same time, pointing out that if corruption and extortion are stopped, the country’s face will change within five years, he said that real development will only begin when the roads of corruption are closed.
The leader stated that the people want to know why important international routes, including Manchester in the UK, have been kept closed. He informed that if they come to power, the closed international routes will be reopened and flights of the state airline to various countries including the United States will be launched.
Pointing out that responsibility does not end just by calling them “remittance warriors”, he assured that if there is no capability, the body of a citizen who dies abroad will be brought to the country with dignity through state initiative, and the state will take responsibility for their family.
Regarding expat voting rights, he said that, for the first time, non-residential Bangladeshis have received the opportunity to vote.
“Although it faced opposition and devaluation,” he added. “Jamaat was the first to raise this demand.”
