Muhammad Talebur Rahman, spokesperson of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Media Cell), has said there is no information regarding Sharif Osman Hadi attackers crossing the border.
He made the remarks during a briefing in Dhaka’s Paltan on Sunday.
The DMP spokesperson said that after analysing CCTV footage, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested motorcycle owner Abdul Hannan and handed him over to Paltan Police Station. A reward has been announced to quickly obtain further information regarding the case.
He added that the main suspect has been identified through CCTV analysis, but there is no information yet about whether the shooter who attempted to kill Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Hadi crossed the border.
He also said that investigators are looking into why Hadi was targeted and why it occurred at this particular time. “We have been able to apprehend all involved in previous incidents immediately,” DMP spokesperson said.
Responding to journalists’ questions, he said the police do not foresee targeted killings before the upcoming elections. During the election period, the police are working to ensure the security of candidates and citizens, as well as maintaining overall law and order.
He noted that, so far, Hadi’s family has not filed any formal complaint regarding the attack.
