Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday said the mastermind of the July Movement is not any individual, rather the 180 million people of the country provided the actual leadership for the movement.
He made these remarks in Parliament while responding to a statement by Civil Aviation & Tourism Ministry State Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat.
Shafiqur clarified that he never presented the July Movement as an initiative led by a single person, emphasising instead that it was a collective movement of the people. He provided this clarification after Millat thanked him for referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as the “mastermind” of the July Movement.
The opposition leader further noted that he had previously protested when Yunus, during a visit to the United States, introduced a single individual as the ‘mastermind’ of the movement.
“The mastermind of the July Movement is not one person. The 18 crore people of this country are the masterminds of this uprising,” he reiterated.
During the session, Shafiqur also explained the specific timing and context in which he had previously mentioned Tarique Rahman as a mastermind.
