State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has assured that no family affected by flooding and waterlogging will be left without government support.
He said the government would conduct a proper assessment of losses after the floods and provide necessary assistance to affected people.
The state minister made the remarks while visiting waterlogged areas of Chattogram city and distributing relief materials among flood-hit residents on Sunday.
He visited Chandgaon C&B, Mohra and South Kattali areas in the morning amid widespread waterlogging caused by continuous heavy rain and hill runoff.
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Sahadat Hossain, lawmakers Ershad Ullah and Saeed Al Noman accompanied him during the visit.
During the inspection, Anindya Islam Amit visited affected households, spoke with residents and heard about their difficulties.
He instructed officials concerned to prioritise the supply of safe drinking water, food and emergency services in the affected areas.
“The government’s priority during this disaster is to stand beside the affected people,” he said, adding that government agencies, local administrations and elected representatives were working together under the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The state minister said relief assistance, including food, safe water and medicines, would continue. He added that the government would also undertake post-flood rehabilitation efforts, assess damages and ensure further support based on needs.
CCC Mayor Shahadat Hossain said city corporation teams were working to keep drainage systems functional, provide emergency services and distribute food and safe drinking water among affected residents.
He said the activities would continue until the situation improves.
Local representatives, government officials, political leaders and volunteers were present during the relief distribution programme.
They provided rice, lentils, cooking oil, dry food, safe drinking water and other essential items to affected families.
Several parts of Chattogram city have remained waterlogged following days of heavy rainfall and hill runoff, leaving thousands of residents in low-lying areas affected.
Relief operations by government agencies are continuing.
