No cases have been filed yet, and police are yet to make any arrests in connection with separate double murders in Harintana area of Khulna. Police stated that drives are currently underway to apprehend the suspects.
Earlier, police handed over the bodies of two victims to their families on Thursday afternoon following the completion of their post-mortem examinations. They were later laid to rest at a local graveyard after Asr prayers.
The incidents occurred on Wednesday evening in Shishu Bagan Ashi Bigha area under the jurisdiction of Labanchara Police Station.
The first victim, Manzurul, was killed after being shot and attacked with sharp weapons by miscreants. Two hours later, police recovered the bullet-ridden body of another youth, Najmul, from the exact same spot.
Speaking on the matter, Syed Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station, confirmed that the crime scenes for both murders were identical.
He explained that Najmul’s body was discovered while police officers were busy trying to arrest the suspects after rescuing Manzurul and sending him to the hospital.
According to OC, the attackers shot Najmul in the right side of his body and the left side of his back to ensure his death before fleeing the scene.
Although the OC could not provide a clear motive behind the killings, he noted that the family members of the victims were expected to lodge formal cases at the police station tonight.
Meanwhile, local sources claimed that both victims had an ongoing conflict with a local terrorist over internal feuds, establishing supremacy, and drug-related disputes. The sources alleged that the attackers seized an opportunity on Wednesday to launch the deadly assault.
