The Directorate of Posts has decided to introduce a night postal service, operating as a second shift, at the Bangladesh Supreme Court premises in addition to the existing sub-post office. This initiative aims to fulfil a long-standing demand from both lawyers and litigants.
According to a letter signed by Director of the Directorate of Posts Md Aminur Rahman, and sent to the Metropolitan Postmaster General, Dhaka, the decision was made for the convenience of the public and in the interest of government work.
The move specifically addresses the requirements of the High Court sub-post office’s customers. The Directorate has further instructed that a report containing the “value return” for the first three months following the introduction of the second shift be submitted.
The decision follows an application submitted on 8 February by SM Arif Mondal, an Advocate-on-Record of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
In his petition to the director general of the Directorate of Posts, Mondal emphasised that an evening or “B-grade” postal service is essential for the swift dispatch of urgent letters and critical High Court orders.
