The newly elected committee of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) was sworn in during a formal ceremony held at the university’s Senate Hall on Thursday.
The oath-taking event for the 25 newly elected secretaries commenced at 4:30pm, presided over by Vice-Chancellor and JUCSU President Professor Kamrul Ahsan.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Election Commissioner Dr Moniruzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Sohel Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, families of the July 24 martyrs, and relatives of the elected leaders.
The programme opened with recitations from the Holy Qur’an, followed by readings from the Gita and the Bible, reflecting the university’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamrul Ahsan then administered the oath, which the elected representatives repeated in unison.
Expressing his dedication, newly elected JUCSU Vice President Abdur Rashid Jitu said, “I will work for every student at Jahangirnagar University, considering myself one of them. Together, we will build the Jahangirnagar of our dreams.”
Meanwhile, newly elected General Secretary Mazharul Islam highlighted the significance of this election, stating, “After 33 long years, the JUCSU election was finally held, and I feel truly honored to be chosen as General Secretary by the grace of Almighty Allah. I aim to be the voice of every student, stand against injustice, and dedicate myself to the university’s smooth functioning and progress.”
The JUCSU elections were held on 11 September, with results officially announced on 13 September at 3pm.
