Newly appointed Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 by laying a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar.
He paid the tribute at around 3:30pm on Sunday.
After paying homage, he observed a one-minute silence in memory of the valiant martyrs and later signed the visitors’ book at the National Memorial. Judges of different levels were present with him at the time.
Earlier, at 10:35am, President Md Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury as Chief Justice at a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
Chief Adviser of the Interim Government Muhammad Yunus was present at the oath-taking ceremony.
At the programme, advisers of the interim government, judges, the chiefs of the three services and lawyers of the Supreme Court were also present.
On 23 December, President Md Shahabuddin appointed Appellate Division Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury as the Chief Justice of Bangladesh under the powers conferred by Article 95(1) of the Constitution.
His tenure began from the day of his oath-taking.
