Nepal created history in Sharjah on September 27. They defeated West Indies by 19 runs to claim their first-ever win against a full-member nation. West Indies are two-time T20 World Cup winners, which made the victory even more special.
Nepal had come very close in the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa but could not finish the job, as they lost by 1 run. But this time, they did not miss the chance.
Batting first, Nepal scored 148/8 on a slow wicket. Captain Rohit Paudel made 38 from 35 balls. Kushal Malla added 30 from 21 deliveries. Later, Gulsan Jha played a useful knock of 22 from 16 balls to push the total beyond 140.
The chase never looked easy for West Indies. They were 56 for 4 at the halfway mark and still needed 93 runs in the last 10 overs. Nepal bowlers kept things tight and did not let the batsmen settle.
The game was almost over when West Indies needed 70 runs from the last five overs with only four wickets left. Fabian Allen scored 19 from 14 balls and captain Akeal Hosein hit 18 from 9, but it was not enough.
Nepal sealed a famous win, while West Indies will try to fight back in the second T20I in Sharjah on September 29.
