As the lines between crime and conscience blur, ‘NeelChokro’ emerges as one of the boldest thrillers to come out of Bangladesh in recent years.
Following its successful Eid-ul-Adha theatrical run, the film is now set to reach a wider audience when it premieres on iScreen on November 13.
Directed by Mithu Khan, the film stars Arifin Shuvoo and Mondera Chakroborty in lead roles, with Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shirin Alam, Khaleda Akter Kolpana, Shahed Ali, Priyonti Urbee and Masum Rezwan rounding out the ensemble.
The screenplay, co-written by Mithu Khan and Nazim Ud Daula, weaves a tense narrative where personal privacy becomes a weapon in the wrong hands.
Set against the backdrop of a city ensnared by digital deceit, NeelChokro delves into the underbelly of the internet, where leaked videos and social manipulation form a chilling chain of destruction.
At its heart, it’s less about the crime itself and more about the fear and moral decay it breeds.
Speaking about the film’s theme, director Mithu Khan said, “We wanted to merge suspense with social reality. The ‘blue film racket’ is a disturbing truth within our society, one that cinema has often shied away from. NeelChokro confronts that silence.”
After years of formulaic thrillers, NeelChokro signals a shift in tone for Dhallywood, towards stories that dare to hold up a mirror to uncomfortable truths.
