The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced candidates for 125 constituencies, leaving several seats open for alliance partners and interested rebel candidates from the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday morning at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary said the party is prepared to nominate rebels from both BNP and Jamaat who support political reforms and maintain strong grassroots connections.
“In the first phase, we are nominating 125 candidates,” he said. Asked about advisers Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam, he added, “They have not resigned yet. If they resign, we can consider them.”
On rebel candidates, Nasiruddin said, “In the second phase, we will nominate BNP rebels who are pro-reform. We will also nominate Jamaat rebels. The NCP remains open to those who may have lost due to financial influence but maintain strong public connections and wish to serve in parliament.”
When asked how many rebel candidates have contacted the NCP, he replied, “I cannot give a number at the moment, but many are reaching out. The field activity has started, and communication is underway.”
The candidate list was formally announced by NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.
