The National Citizens Party (NCP) has restructured its partial convening committee for the Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, appointing Ishraq Sarkar as the convener and SM Shahriar as the member secretary.
The announcement followed a ceremony held on Friday afternoon at the IDEB building in the capital, where Ishraq Sarkar and several other prominent individuals formally joined the NCP.
Ishraq Sarkar, a former central organising secretary of Jubo Dal, was previously expelled from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for contesting the 13th national parliamentary election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-7 constituency. Throughout his political career, he has been named as an accused in over 300 cases and has spent approximately 10 years in prison.
The newly appointed member secretary, S M Shahriar, contested the national polls from the Dhaka-5 constituency as an NCP candidate. He was the founding joint chief organiser of the National Citizens Committee and subsequently served in the NCP central committee with responsibilities for the southern region.
Other notable figures who joined the party during the event include Fersamin Huq Iqbal (Flora), granddaughter of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Huq; Mohiuddin Roni, a leader known for his movements against railway irregularities; and content creator Nuruzzaman Kafi.
