A court in Habiganj on Sunday granted interim bail to 11 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), including district unit President Rajib Ahmed Ringon, in a case over the alleged attack on the motorcade of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The accused surrendered before the Cognizance-3 Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and sought bail, said Public Prosecutor Advocate Nurul Islam.
After hearing the petition, the court granted interim bail until the submission of the medical certificate (MC) report related to the injuries cited in the case.
Defence lawyer Advocate Kutub Uddin Jewel argued that the case lacked specific allegations, including details about the time of the incident and the individual roles of the accused in the alleged assault.
He told the court that the complaint was unfounded and said these factors were taken into consideration while granting interim bail.
The case relates to an alleged attack on the convoy of NCP leaders during the party’s July programme in Habiganj on 28 July.
According to the complaint, at least 15 party leaders and activists, including NCP Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, sustained injuries in the incident.
On 29 July, Tanmoy Taher Rubel, convener of Jubo Shakti in Habiganj, filed the case with Habiganj Sadar Police Station, naming 11 JCD leaders and activists as accused along with 100 unidentified individuals.
