Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR) has integrated the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) electronic UD system with Asycuda World, a move aimed at modernising bond management and accelerating import-export clearance, the revenue authority said.
The integration took effect from 11 January and is intended to make UD verification fully online and real time, reducing paperwork while improving transparency and accountability, according to an NBR press release issued on Sunday.
Previously, UD verification relied heavily on manual checks and BGMEA’s internal system, often leading to delays and procedural bottlenecks. Under the new arrangement, verification will be conducted digitally through Asycuda World, streamlining customs clearance for both imported raw materials and exported goods.
NBR officials said the system would significantly reduce dependence on physical documentation while strengthening revenue protection and risk management. They added that the initiative would also modernise overall bond management and bring procedures closer to international standards.
A pilot phase of the integration has already been completed successfully, and e-UD write-off operations will now be rolled out gradually, officials said.
NBR and BGMEA officials described the linkage as a major step toward a paperless customs environment, expected to simplify trade processes and enhance Bangladesh’s competitiveness in global markets.
A senior NBR official said the technology-driven system would speed up clearance processes and ensure greater accountability across the trade ecosystem, helping customs operations align with international best practices.
The initiative forms part of a broader NBR drive to digitise customs procedures, cut processing delays and create a more efficient and competitive environment for importers and exporters in Bangladesh.
