Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan on Sunday inaugurated the Navy’s ‘Tree Plantation Campaign-2026’ at the Naval Headquarters in Dhaka, as part of the government’s nationwide drive to plant 250 million trees in five years.
The navy chief launched the campaign by planting a sapling at the Naval Headquarters on 12 July, following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s inauguration of the government’s ‘Plant 250 million trees in five years’ campaign on 9 July. The Bangladesh Navy said in a press release that the initiative was being implemented under the theme “Let’s adorn the country with trees, Bangladesh first.”
The event was attended by the Principal Staff Officer of Naval Headquarters, regional commanders of naval areas, senior military and civilian officials, and sailors.
The Bangladesh Navy is carrying out tree plantation programmes at all naval bases, installations and coastal areas across the country to ensure the successful implementation of the 2026 campaign.
Admiral Nazmul Hassan called on naval personnel to plant trees from their respective positions, highlighting the importance of balancing development with environmental conservation to build a safer and more liveable Bangladesh for future generations.
The navy chief said the initiative would help create a greener, climate-resilient and environmentally friendly Bangladesh. He also stressed the need for increased tree plantation in coastal areas to strengthen protection against natural disasters and preserve ecological balance.
As part of the campaign, the Bangladesh Navy is planting fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal saplings at naval bases, coastal installations and surrounding areas.
