The main congregation of Eid-ul-Adha at the National Eidgah Maidan will be held at 7:30am, officials announced on Wednesday after inspecting preparations at the venue.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam briefed media personnel following the inspection.
This year, approximately 35,000 worshippers will be able to offer prayers together in 121 rows at the Eidgah. Separate entry points, ablution areas, and prayer arrangements have been made for women.
To ensure worshipper comfort, air conditioning, adequate fans, ablution areas, pure water, mobile toilets, and first aid services have been arranged throughout the pandal. Coordination with law enforcement agencies has also been completed for security.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, along with Cabinet members, judges, senior government officials and foreign diplomats, are expected to join the main congregation.
The National Eidgah spans around 30,000 square metres, including a 25,400-square-metre main prayer pavilion. There will have a total of 121 rows, allowing around 35,000 worshippers to offer prayers at a time.
Of them, 250 VIP male and 80 VIP female worshippers will have designated arrangements. Separate facilities have also been made for around 31,000 male and 3,500 female worshippers.
After the Eidgah inspection, the state minister and DSCC administrator inaugurated the beautification work of the Palashi Interim Waste Transfer Station (STS) adjacent to BUET. Eye-catching graffiti of historical structures like Lalbagh Fort and Ahsan Manzil have been painted on the station’s walls, significantly enhancing the area’s aesthetics.
At a subsequent exchange meeting on sacrificial waste management at DSCC’s Nagar Bhaban, officials announced a well-organised action plan.
Waste transport to Matuail Landfill will officially begin from Kallyanpur STS at 1:30pm on Eid day, with a target to completely remove the first day’s waste within eight hours, by 9:30pm.
DSCC expects a total of 33,942 tons of waste to be generated in Dhaka South over the three days of Eid-ul-Adha. To accomplish this, 13,453 personnel and 2,117 vehicles and equipment — including trucks, compactors, and pay-loaders — will be deployed.
Additionally, 46 tons of bleaching powder, 210 gallons of Savlon, and 140,000 biodegradable bags are being distributed across 75 wards for proper waste management.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam expressed deep satisfaction with DSCC’s preparations and praised the government’s approach to city corporation administration.
“The appointment of political administrators was the visionary decision of the Honourable Prime Minister,” he said. “DSCC is a prime example of how citizen services have multiplied manifold due to the appointment of party administrators in city corporations. DSCC has achieved much more progress than before in modernising waste management, mosquito control, and greening.”
Senior DSCC officials were present at the inspection and exchange meeting.
