Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman has expressed regret over the attack on an NCP rally in Savar, saying efforts are underway to arrest all those involved in the incident.
The adviser said NCP Convener Nahid Islam, as the head of a political party, should have made a more responsible statement, but instead he made a political remark.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists during his regular weekly briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday morning.
“He (Nahid) said the government was behind the attack, but the information is not accurate,” the adviser said.
He also said that some people have been making derogatory remarks about July, but such comments are not currently being considered a criminal offence.
“Whether such remarks should be treated as a criminal offence can be discussed,” he added.
The adviser said the July Museum would be opened on 5 August.
Responding to another question, he said the trial of Jamaat-e-Islami over crimes against humanity had not been halted and that updates on the matter would be shared later.
He also said local government elections would begin in October this year and are expected to be completed by October next year.
