Bangladesh pace bowler Nahid Rana will miss the two-Test series against Australia after suffering a muscle injury, according to multiple media reports.
Rana injured his left muscle during the final T20I against Zimbabwe. The fast bowler failed to complete his four-over spell and left the field after bowling 2.3 overs. The injury had already ruled him out of the final match of the series.
The same injury has now ended his hopes of featuring in the Australia tour. Reports said Rana will need at least two months to recover. He will spend the first month in complete rest before beginning a rehabilitation programme.
Rana’s absence leaves Bangladesh without one of their quickest bowlers for a series that forms part of the World Test Championship. His pace and ability to generate bounce would have offered an important option on Australian pitches.
Bangladesh also face uncertainty over Litton Das and Shariful Islam. Their availability depends on medical assessments, although the team remains more optimistic about Litton’s chances of making the squad.
The first Test starts in Darwin on 13 August, with the second and final match scheduled for 22 August in Mackay. Cricket Australia has already named a strong squad, underlining the importance of the World Test Championship fixtures.
