Nahid Rana’s rapid rise in international cricket has sparked fresh discussion about a possible Big Bash League move after the Bangladesh fast bowler impressed against Australia in Mirpur.
The 23-year-old produced another eye-catching spell in the first ODI against Australia on Tuesday. Rana claimed 4 wickets for 41 runs from 10 overs and regularly troubled batters with pace and bounce. One delivery exceeded 150 km/h as he removed Josh Inglis, Alex Carey, Liam Scott and Xavier Bartlett.
The performance caught the attention of the Big Bash League’s official social media channels. The competition tagged Rana in a Facebook post and asked whether fans could see the Bangladesh quick in BBL 16.
Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey also backed Rana to play in the tournament. After Australia’s 86-run defeat under the DLS method, Carey praised the fast bowler’s skill set.
“Absolutely, Rana can play in the Big Bash. He generates bounce and takes wickets. He can come to the Adelaide Strikers if he wants.”
Rana already has franchise cricket experience outside the Bangladesh Premier League. He played for Peshawar Zalmi in the 2026 Pakistan Super League and played a key role in their title-winning campaign.
The right-arm quick took nine wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 5.44. His standout performance came when he returned figures of 3 for 7 from four overs.
Rana has also dominated in international cricket this year. He won back-to-back Player of the Series awards against Pakistan and New Zealand. He claimed eight wickets in each series and recorded a five-wicket haul against both opponents.
His ODI record now stands at 25 wickets from 12 matches with an economy rate of 4.90. With pace, bounce and growing recognition from overseas leagues, Rana continues to strengthen his case for a future Big Bash contract.
