Nagad, the mobile financial service of the Bangladesh Post Office, processed Tk2,147.43 crore in transactions on 19 March ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking its highest single-day value.
Transactions remained high the following day at Tk2,064.56 crore. Daily transaction volumes more than doubled, with 1.63 crore transactions on 19 March and over 1.52 crore on 20 March, compared with the usual 75–80 lakh transactions.
Most transactions were through cash-in, cash-out, money transfers, government allowance disbursements, mobile recharge and payments. Remittances accounted for a significant portion.
Md Motasem Billah, Bangladesh Bank-appointed administrator at Nagad, said the record reflected “the trust and confidence of the people” and credited service improvements for driving higher volumes. He added the platform will introduce more advanced services in the coming months.
Launched seven years ago, Nagad now operates around 300,000 agent points nationwide, serving millions of customers daily. It plays a key role in disbursing government funds, including Family Card benefits, school stipends, grants from the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust, and other social safety net allowances.
The platform is expected to expand its role in distributing funds under farmer cards, allowances for imams and muezzins, and other government subsidies.
