Uzbek midfielder Muzaffar Muzaffarov has rejoined Mohammedan Sporting Club ahead of the second phase of the Bangladesh Football League, providing a timely boost in the title race.

The 26-year-old had been a central figure at the club for more than four years and was instrumental in securing Mohammedan’s first league title of the professional era last season. However, just before the final round of the first phase of the current campaign, Muzaffarov announced his departure through a Facebook post, a move that surprised and disappointed supporters.

He officially rejoined the squad two days ago and has already resumed training. His return strengthens Mohammedan’s midfield as the league prepares to resume following a two-month break caused by the mid-season transfer window and national elections.

Muzaffarov joined Mohammedan in 2022 from Uzbek side Dynamo Samarkand and quickly established himself as an indispensable presence in midfield. Across 53 appearances, he has scored 11 goals and contributed significantly beyond statistics with his composure, creativity and leadership. He played a key role in ending the club’s 14-year wait for a Federation Cup title and guiding them to their maiden Bangladesh Football League crown.

Sources indicate that tensions over salary payments may have influenced his earlier departure, although family reasons were publicly cited at the time. His return suggests that those issues have now been resolved, marking a positive development for both the player and the club.

The Bangladesh Football League resumes on 6 March with four fixtures. Arambagh Krira Sangha will face Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club in Manikganj, Bangladesh Police FC meet Brothers Union in Gazipur, Bashundhara Kings host PWD SC at the Kings Arena, and Abahani take on Rahmatganj Muslim Friends and Society in Cumilla. Mohammedan are scheduled to play Fortis FC in Cumilla on 7 March.
