A dispute has emerged over the upcoming release of ‘Contract Marriage’, a film starring Moushumi and directed by Hasan Jahangir.
The film follows the story of a woman who leaves her husband in Bangladesh and remarries abroad, exploring the emotional and social complications that follow. However, questions have now been raised about its format and authorisation.
Actress Moushumi and her husband, actor Omar Sani, have publicly objected to the project’s release as a full-length feature. In a video statement shared on social media, Omar Sani said the production was originally shot as a one-hour drama in the US and was later discussed as a potential telefilm, not a cinema release. He questioned how it had been cleared for theatrical distribution without what he described as proper written consent.
Moushumi also shared her position through an audio message, stating that the project was initially completed as a television drama at the producer’s request, with additional shooting time provided. She added that she had only agreed verbally to a telefilm release.
She further alleged that key technical work, including dubbing and other post-production elements required for a film release, had not been completed, and claimed she had not received full remuneration associated with a feature film.
The couple have called for the release to be halted as a cinema production, describing the situation as concerning for the industry.
‘Contract Marriage’ is directed by Hasan Jahangir and has already been cleared by the censor board, with a planned theatrical release date announced.
