Four people, including a mother and her child, were killed and two others seriously injured in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria on Friday morning.
In the Ramrail area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila along the Comilla-Sylhet Highway, a pickup van collided with a CNG auto-rickshaw, killing the driver Mahbub (45), passenger Josna Begum (40) and her young son Ashraful (5). Josna’s husband Kausar (50) and their daughter Adiba (4) were seriously injured and transferred from Brahmanbaria General Hospital to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The family resides in Bahadurpur village of Mulgram Union in Kossba upazila.
According to police, Kausar was travelling with his wife and children in the auto-rickshaw towards Sarail-Bishwaroad when the pickup van, carrying fish, hit them from behind in the Biyallishhar area. The impact left the auto-rickshaw passengers critically injured. They were taken to the district hospital, where the three later died.
Meanwhile, on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Bariura area of Sarail upazila, pedestrian Oli Mia (55) was killed after being run over by a private car.
Khantihata Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Taher confirmed that four people died and two were injured in separate accidents.
Police were dispatched immediately, but the pickup van driver and his accomplice fled the scene and have yet to be apprehended.
