Morocco set their final plans before next month’s World Cup with three warm up matches as new coach Mohamed Ouahbi gets more time to shape his squad.
The Atlas Lions shocked many by reaching the semi finals in Qatar four years ago. Since then, they have started a new chapter after Walid Regragui stepped down in March. Morocco appointed Ouahbi as his replacement.
Ouahbi has so far managed only two matches. His side drew with Ecuador before beating Paraguay in his early days as coach.
Morocco’s football federation confirmed the team will first face Burundi on May 26 in a closed door match at their training centre in Sale. They will then play Madagascar on June 2 in Rabat, where fans can give the team a proper send off.
After arriving in the United States, Morocco will complete their World Cup build up with a final friendly against Norway on June 7 in New York. Their base camp for the tournament will be in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Reports said Morocco will begin preparations on May 22, though the final squad is expected to be announced a week later.
Morocco have been placed in Group C and begin their campaign against Brazil on June 13 in New York. They will then face Scotland on June 19 in Boston before taking on Haiti on June 24 in Atlanta.
