The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds across the country. The forecast covers the next 120 hours from 9am on Friday.
According to the forecast, the axis of the monsoon winds extends from northern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal to northern Bangladesh, with part of it reaching the northern Bay of Bengal. Currently, the monsoon winds are moderately active over Bangladesh and the northern Bay of Bengal.
As a result, over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds is expected in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions, and in isolated areas of Rajshahi, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions. Some areas may also experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
Day and night temperatures are expected to remain almost unchanged across the country.
The forecast further states that on Saturday, many areas in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and scattered locations in other divisions, may experience rain with gusty winds. Similar conditions are likely to continue on Sunday, with a slight drop in day and night temperatures nationwide.
On Monday, widespread rain is expected in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. From Tuesday, rainfall may decrease slightly, though scattered showers are expected across various divisions. Rainfall is likely to ease initially and increase again toward the end of the period.
Earlier, a warning issued for the country’s inland river ports predicted thunderstorms with gusty winds of up to 60 km/h over four districts until 9am on Friday. Temporary gusts of 45–60 km/h from the south or southeast, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms, were forecast over Rajshahi, Pabna, Kushtia, and Tangail.
