A mobile court seized around 3,360 kilograms of immature mangoes treated with harmful chemicals during a drive in Kaliganj, Satkhira.
Kaliganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) Moinul Islam Khan conducted the drive on Thursday.
According to court sources, a mobile court team conducted a drive after learning that a circle was transporting a large quantity of chemical-laced mangoes from the Shuilpur area to Dhaka.
Upon searching the pickup, officials recovered 168 crates containing the 3,360 kg of seized fruit. It is initially suspected that harmful chemicals were used on the mangoes to ripen them prematurely, which poses a severe risk to human health.
To mitigate public health risks, the seized mangoes were destroyed in an area adjacent to the Shuilpur BGB Camp by being crushed under the wheels of a truck.
