The body of a Saudi Arabian expatriate, who went missing while fishing in the Naleya River in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha, was recovered on Friday morning after a 22 hour search operation.
The deceased, identified as Yunus Ali, 45, was the son of Abu Bakar Siddique Mia of Nayapara village under Khordda Komorpur union of the upazila, Gaibandha.
According to fire service and local sources, Yunus had lived in Saudi Arabia for 15 years and returned home recently. Around 1pm on Thursday, he went to fish as a hobby in the Naleya River near the Torofjahan Jhaulor Bazar area of Khordda Komorpur union, located about two kilometres away from his home.
When Yunus failed to return home after a long time, his family launched a search. After failing to locate him, the family reported the incident to the police around 10:30pm on Thursday.
A diving team from Rangpur arrived on Friday morning and initiated a search operation across different parts of the river from 7am. Around 9:30am, the divers recovered his body from the river, south of Raghunathpur Moraghati Primary School in Idilpur union of Sadullapur upazila.
Abdur Rahman, the acting station officer of Sadullapur Fire Service, confirmed the recovery of the expatriate’s body and stated that it had been handed over to his relatives.
