Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Forest Department, Agargaon, Dhaka, conducted a successful raid in the capital’s Bangabazar area under Shahbagh Police Station on Friday, rescuing six cobras and detaining one individual suspected of wildlife trafficking.
The operation was executed based on confidential information. It was carried out with overall co-operation of Adnan Azad, proprietor of environmental organisation Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association (BAWA).
The detained suspect has been identified as Md Monir Hossain Mamud, 40. According to authorities, the six cobras had been kept in possession with the intent of smuggling them.
Following the drive, a case has been filed against Mamud at Shahbagh Police Station under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act.
