Two people, including a pedestrian woman, were injured after miscreants shot at them in the capital’s Pallabi area on Friday evening.
The shooting occurred at around 5:45pm on Friday at Road No. 2 near Millat Camp area under Mirpur-11 Section in Pallabi.
According to police and family sources, Alamgir, a resident of Mirpur Section-11 who runs a fish business and is an activist of BNP’s youth wing, Jubo Dal, in Dhaka’s Nawabganj area, was present at the location.
Four miscreants arrived at the scene in a private car, targeted Alamgir, and fired three rounds of bullets.
Alamgir was struck multiple times in his head and body, and the assailants quickly fled the scene in their vehicle. Simultaneously, a female pedestrian identified as Razia was also shot while crossing the road.
Following the shooting, relatives and local residents rescued the injured and initially took them to a local hospital. They were later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment, where Alamgir is currently admitted.
Upon receiving the information, law enforcement personnel reached the spot and began their investigation into the shooting.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Bashir confirmed the incident to the TIMES of Bangladesh, saying the miscreants had fired three rounds in the area.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical Police Camp, also confirmed that Alamgir had been hospitalised with bullet wounds.
Alamgir’s brother, Jahangir, and other relatives suspect that a political rivalry may have been the motive behind the targeted attack, though identity of the shooters could not be immediately confirmed.
