The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has given Bashundhara Kings, Abahani Limited Dhaka and Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club more time to solve their FIFA transfer ban issues.
The three clubs now have until August 11 to meet the club licensing rules and get their transfer bans lifted.
BFF had first set August 4 as the deadline. It later moved the date to August 7. The federation has now extended it for the second time.
“The deadline for fulfilling the club licensing requirements for the 2026-27 Bangladesh Football League (BFL) season has been extended until August 11,” BFF said in a statement.
Bashundhara Kings face the biggest challenge among the three clubs.
The defending league champions currently have 12 FIFA bans on registering new players. Kings received their first ban on August 27 last year. FIFA later added 11 more.
Abahani are in a better position, but they still have work to do.
The Dhaka club originally had three bans. They have already cleared two of them. However, one ban remains active. That ban has been in place since November 21 last year.
Fakirerpool also need to clear their problems before the new deadline.
The club were relegated last season but later received another chance to play in the top flight. They currently have two FIFA bans. Those came on March 24 and March 27 this year.
Unpaid money to players and coaches is the main reason behind the bans.
A FIFA transfer ban stops a club from registering new players. It can also create problems when a club tries to get the licence needed to play in domestic competitions.
The clubs must settle their disputes with the players, coaches or agents who made the complaints to get the bans removed.
They also need to clear any unpaid money and fines. After making the payments, the clubs must send the required documents to FIFA.
FIFA can allow payments in parts in some cases. However, both sides need to agree to it in writing.
FIFA will remove the ban after checking the documents and confirming that the club has met all requirements.
Time is now running short for the three clubs.
The new domestic season is set to start with the Challenge Cup on August 21. The Federation Cup will begin on August 24.
The first round of the Bangladesh Football League will then take place on August 28 and 29.
Kings, Abahani and Fakirerpool now have four more days to solve their problems and meet BFF’s licensing rules before the new season.
