Miscreants set fire to a Grameen Bank office in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura around 3:30am on Tuesday.
Several pieces of furniture and a number of documents inside the bank were burnt in the fire, said Bilal Mridha, station master of Mohammadpur Upazila Fire Service said.
Later, fire service and police arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control with the help of locals.
Manager of Grameen Bank’s Mohammadpur branch Sohana Sultana said the administration has been informed. Further action will be taken as per the instructions of senior officials regarding this matter.
She also informed that a plastic bottle, used for carrying petrol, was found outside the window.
Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahman said police members immediately went to the spot once they received news of the fire. However, the extent of damage to the bank is not yet known and will be determined through investigation.
Legal action regarding this matter is underway.
