BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has suddenly fallen ill and is receiving treatment at his residence as per doctors’ advice, party sources said.
Confirming the matter, BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said Fakhrul contracted a viral infection late on Friday night and was suffering from fever.
As his physical condition worsened, doctors immediately advised him to remain on complete rest, he said.
BNP secretary general’s condition is being closely monitored and necessary treatment and medication are being provided, he added.
For the time being, following doctors’ instructions, he is not taking part in any political programmes.
Earlier on Friday night, a meeting of the party’s standing committee was held at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.
He will remain on rest until he recovers, as advised by doctors, sources said.
